JOYCE
A night filled with diverse cultures showcased 25 unique performances from around the globe and celebrated by over 3500 people, held at the happiest place on the Gold Coast, Movie World.
I have lived on the Gold Coast for 8 years, before that in Sydney for 5 years, New York for 1 year, and 13 years in Auckland. I was born in the Philippines, which I called home for the first 12 years of my life.
Cultures and traditions often seem like the essence of one’s identity. We take pride in them, though at times we may try to hide them, especially when placed in a new environment.
Diversity is the greatest gift we have—imagine a world with just one outfit! How boring would that be? I believe our outer beings, combined with our learned beliefs, traditions, and cultures, are like the outfits that represent our current practices. How colorful our world is with all these outfits!
Although our differences can sometimes cause division, I can tell you that this is only a small fraction. Many, like those attending that night, choose to celebrate one another.
Even though each culture speaks different languages and dialects, there are so many other ways to connect. For example, a smile is universal, right? Dance is another beautiful form of giving and sharing.
The performances at The Multicultural Grand Carnival, brought to you by Cultural Legacy, were embraced by all. With every beat, rhythm, and clap, each culture invited us to celebrate with them. As they proudly shared their traditions, they connected with the audience, and in return, smiles and applause were given. What a beautiful connection!
I am so proud and honored to have been a co-host for this magnificent event. Cultural Legacy has started something truly amazing, and it will become a lasting legacy.
Looking forward to 2025!
